Our Focus

Our goal is to provide opportunities to increase language and literacy skills for all children, ages birth-11 years old. In particular, some of our goals include:

  • Increasing summer learning opportunities and decreasing summer learning loss

  • Increasing kindergarten readiness skills

  • Increasing grade-level reading by third grade

  • Increasing early literacy skills

  • Promoting family literacy

  • Promoting healthy families

  • Encouraging a love of reading and learning

Our Founding Partners

Ujima is one of the seven principals of Kwanzaa that means “collective work and responsibility." Our programs are developed through a collaboration between:​

  • Bartley-Decatur Neighborhood Center

  • Missouri State University's Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD)

  • Springfield-Greene County Libraries

  • Springfield NAACP

  • Springfield Public Schools - Equity and Access
